A few words about hotels during the lockdown - guide

Hotels in Gdańsk open ... for special groups!

Open hotels or closed hotels? In recent weeks, I have received at least a dozen such questions from friends, acquaintances and family members. I also participated in several discussions in which we tried to determine what the current regulations allow us to do and what we cannot do. I thought that since the topic is alive among my relatives, it may also interest our guests, readers and people looking for answers to the most bothering questions. With you in mind, I have prepared this short booking guide during the next lockdown.

Open or closed hotels?

It is true that the current regulations do not allow the provision of hotel services for a significant proportion of guests. But it is also true that they allow stays of professional groups and others whose business trips are necessary to fulfill their duties or, for example, to continue treatment. So it can be said that the hotels are open to special groups.

Special groups - what are they?

If you are wondering if you belong to the eligible travel and business hotel guests, I am here to help. Detailed information can be found in the Journal of Laws in the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of February 26, 2021. I put a link to the document under the entry. It lists the industries and groups of people that today can make a business and special trip.

These include, among others:

  • medical professionals,
  • employees related to the transport industry - rail, road, air and sea,
  • officers and soldiers while performing their official tasks, as well as soldiers of allied forces stationed in Poland,
  • members of diplomatic and consular missions, representatives of international organizations and persons holding a diplomatic passport in the performance of their functions.

In addition, the regulations also mention:

  • people who care about the continuity of critical infrastructure,
  • journalists performing official tasks outside their place of permanent residence and other licensed persons involved in the creation of materials for broadcasters of radio and television broadcasting.

A large group with residence permits are also legal professionals and parties to court proceedings, including:

  • trial representatives, defense lawyers, parties participating in proceedings, witnesses, experts
  • participants and members of committees and teams during bar, legal adviser, bailiff and other exams.

The legislator also gave athletes the opportunity to use the stay:

  • players, coaches, members of the training staff during training camps and sports competitions, and judges.

An important group not related to the performed profession are:

  • patients and their guardians, if the purpose of the stay is to provide necessary medical services,
  • aircraft passengers in connection with, for example, flight delays or cancellations of many hours,
  • foreigners unable to continue their journey to their place of permanent residence or stay

Hotel booking - choose safely

When choosing a hotel, put safety first and foremost! During a pandemic, when we rightly focus on aspects related to hygiene, ensuring comfort and the guarantee of maintaining the highest standards, find an open hotel, whose mission is accompanied by the above ideas. The determinant may be the possession of quality certificates from independent institutions, eg Dekra. If you want to limit your contact with the staff, think about choosing an object that provides a mobile key, i.e. the ability to quickly check-in (but not in this case) and check-out from the hotel in the mobile application, as well as allow you to download invoices on the device, without having to go to the reception desk.

Also keep in mind that hotel meals are currently served in your hotel room. This reduces the need for random meetings in the restaurant. For this reason, guests most often choose the menu in advance, and the meal is delivered at the agreed time by waiter service.

Check in, different than usual

The privacy of our guests is always the highest priority! Therefore, it is with great heartache that we have been forced to act contrary to the values that guide hoteliers. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic situation, we have to break our rules and ask guests about the purpose of the visit and verify this issue. We count on your understanding in this matter. We kindly ask you to prepare travel documents (described in detail in the Regulation linked below the text). These are primarily, depending on the reason of arrival: confirmation of the medical profession, documents issued by the employer confirming the legitimacy of the stay, concessions, service cards, referrals and documents confirming the necessity to use medical services, documents confirming the court session, documents issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and foreigner's statement.

We sincerely apologize for this and even though it is independent of us, we feel very uncomfortable about it. We believe that this situation will change soon and, as before, we will be able to greet you again with a smile without asking any questions.

Finally, I would like to wish all of us that the pandemic situation will stabilize and that this guide will only be valid for the next few days.
